Love overcomes all things, even war. Even the war against Gaza. This piece was my way of using my art to express my exasperation and impotence during the early destruction and targeted killings of the IDF against the civilian population of Gaza. I wanted to stay within the mythological theme of Cupid and Psyche,yet connect it to actual events. Artists are meant to be the antennae of society, detecting situations before others do. We are not morally exempt from taking a stance against injustice and blatant genocide. On the contrary, precisely because we are often the first to intuit what is happening, we have an obligation to use our platform to denounce aggression, lies, destruction and cruelty. I chose to take a hopeful approach to the topic by showing the lovers flying above the ruins of Gaza. Smoldering wisps of smoke connect the earthly rubble to the horizon at the sea beyond and with the heavens. Love conquers all-even war, even death.
