An extraordinary show in the marvelous setting of Rome's ancient Port of Claudius and Trajan in Fiumicino, on via Portuense , this ran from September 18 to October 17, 2021. 

Temple Rome faculty artists Liana Miuccio, Marina Buening, Katherine Krizek and me, Anita Guerra, exhibited  in the company of 70 other artists displaying site-specific work throughout the grounds. Dean Emilia Zankina introduced the four of us.

I mounted my hand embroidered images of swimmers on iron hoops of various diameters. They are encapsulated in their own worlds, like embryos, but are about to encounter other travelers to the Port, a place of exchange of ideas and cultures.  I camouflaged some of the linen mesh by painting the background the same color of the weathered pink bricks of Trajan's warehouses, while others reflected the surrounding colors of the Mediterranean sea, where visitors would find adventure, perhaps a new life, in the Roman port. I suspended turquoise mosquito netting from the opening in the wall and it simulated a waterfall with a man swimming away from the crevice. A visitor commented that it looked like the legs of a woman giving birth. What  wonderful and inspiring feedback, probably a latent intention in my work. A port, a portal, a birth into new worlds.
